Structure of Courses of Study

Structure and Organisation of Study:
  • Four weeks of initial training prepare students systematically for practical assignments at the company.

  • Semesters 1 to 4:
Theoretical Study Period: Lectures, exercises and business games in the areas Computer Science, Mathematics, Economy, Law, Information Systems and specific lectures within the respective branch of study. Presentation of a talk on the activities of the students in practical periods. English, Presentation Techniques and an introduction to Project Management serve to round off the subjects included in the curriculum. Examinations in all disciplines.
Practical Experience Period: Cooperation in selected areas of company operations. Writing up of practical experience reports on the activities at the companies.

  • Intermediate Examination: One part of the evaluation is based on the marks achieved in the exams taken during the first 4 semesters. The mark for the Intermediate Examination is made up of the mark for the Second Year Trainee Project and the mark for the presentation (to be done in English).
Second Year Trainee Project: This forms the main part of the practical training in the companies. The project demonstrates that theoretically acquired knowledge can independently be applied to a project.
    Academic Qualification: Economic Assistant (Berufsakademie).

  • Semesters 5 to 6:
Theoretical Study Period: Consolidation of the theoretical education in different compulsory elective subjects. Term papers on certain subjects.
Practical Experience Period: Largely independent work in different departments of the company. Preparation of a practical experience report.

  • Final Examination: Written examination on major subjects in the advanced study period.

  • Final Year Project: Independent solution of an operational problem by applying previously acquired knowledge and skills and documenting them.

The Course of a Semester:
A semester is divided into phases of practical experience and phases of classroom study which alternate during any one week: about 20 hours of academic study at the University of Cooperative Education and about 20 hours practical training in the company.
